This is my 3rd painting in the Apocalypse series I've created since the pandemic. The animals I've chosen for this series have each shown up in a powerful & personal way in my life. Earlier this year on my birthday canoe trip to the springs, we came across hundreds of vultures in the trees and we watched as they jumped from branch to branch to bathe, dry, nest etc in silence and we learned that vultures communicate more from body language than vocalization. It was powerful to see so many large birds in one space. We listened to the sound of hundreds of wings jumping, flying and flapping, the whisping sound of the feathers shredding through the air as we slowly approached by canoe. Vulture medicine has been symbolized as the harmonizers of groups, seen as a rebirth symbol and community oriented.
